ESTIMATOR

Successful candidates will have a full range of project estimating experience. Project administration experience and decent Spanish are very helpful. Candidates must be enthusiastic and personable, have a great work ethic, and able to think critically. This person works closely with architects and designers, and must be detail-oriented, organized, and quick to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Create budget spreadsheets from drawing sets and attend pre-bid meeting with design staff to understand project scope and priorities.

  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials.

  • Attend weekly construction office schedule meetings; maintain notes and calendar.

  • Attend to correspondence and construction office admin.

  • Report to Controller and Project Manager for budget review.

  • Price out work orders as assigned.

  • Undertake research projects as asked.

  • Assist with construction administration in the field as asked.

  • Be prepared for site visits to take measurements, photos, or to deliver drawings or samples.

  • Present budgets at client meetings; record client feedback and take detailed notes.

  • Maintain digital files according to office standards and become familiar with current projects.

  • Order and supply materials as needed

  • Create, send and manage subcontractor requests for proposal.

  • Manage task lists to correctly prioritize workload of budgets and job schedules.

  • Coordinate with Construction supervisor and design staff.

  • Schedule and attend pre-construction meetings.

  • Schedule follow-up site visits with construction manager and/or

  • project designer.

  • Audit past and ongoing project budgets for accuracy.

DESIGN OFFICE RECEPTIONIST, CLAYTON & LITTLE EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

In 2017, Word + Carr Design Group moved its Austin office to 2201 N. Lamar. Originally built in 1964, the building was renovated by Clayton & Little, christened “Design Office,” and is home to four additional businesses: Clayton & Little, Helms Workshop, Source Pixel Foundry, and Burnish & Plumb Construction Co. We are seeking a warm, professional receptionist (to be employed by Clayton & Little) who will be the first point of contact for all businesses at Design Office, and will provide administrative support to senior staff at Clayton & Little. This will start as a 3 month contract position with an opportunity for full-time conversion.

The Receptionist and Executive Assistant serves as the face of Design Office and is integral in creating a welcoming and on-brand employee and guest experience throughout the building. The successful candidate is self-directed, warm, truly enjoys interacting with people, and has a professional presence a notch above the average Austin standard. The person in this position will report to Clayton & Little’s Controller, Georgian Whitenight, and its Creative Director, Wendy Smith.

Responsibilities:

  • Put all Design Office visitors and guests at ease by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately

  • Answer, screen, and route incoming calls with excellent phone etiquette and sense of discretion

  • Handle time-sensitive materials and issues in an appropriate manner • Help coordinate calendar logistics for all meetings scheduled in conference rooms and common spaces • Keep the reception area clean, clutter-free and presentable to all

  • Keep all conference rooms stocked and presentable between meetings 2 • Assist with additional administrative responsibilities as needed

  • Complete ad-hoc projects and administrative tasks as assigned

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree preferred

  • 5+ years of proven receptionist and or executive assistant experience required

  • You are both receptive and responsive to direction from senior staff

  • You are innately hospitable, intuit others’ needs, and are spontaneously helpful to others

  • You are equally at ease with executives as with delivery drivers and contract laborers

  • You are reliable, resourceful, adept at solving issues independently as they arise and have a can-do mindset

  • You are able to handle sensitive information with complete discretion

  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent experience using Outlook or Google apps such as docs, calendar etc.

  • Excellent knowledge of MS office products and web-based alternatives

  • You are self-directed, able to work independently and prioritize workload with limited direction

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google

SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

We currently seek a senior landscape architect with a minimum of 10 years of experience. The right person will be adaptable, smart, detail oriented and even-tempered. This is a 40-hour per week position.

Applicants must have:

  • Professional license in Texas or reciprocal state.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or

  • Architectural Engineering

  • 5-10 years of experience working in a design-based Landscape Architecture firm

  • Experience with the entire design process from concept through construction observation

  • Software skills: Vectorworks, AutoCAD or similar, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, and Indesign, Microsoft Office Suite

Strong skills in the following are essential for success in this position:

  • Excellent hand and computer drawing skills

  • Elegant and well-defined design sensibility

  • Research and permitting experience

  • Thorough knowledge of construction grading and detailing

  • Extensive experience developing full drawings sets in CAD-based software.

  • Hardscape and landscape design; knowledge of local plants strongly preferred

  • Creative problem solving ability

  • Emotional resiliency, conflict resolution, empathy

  • Robust construction observation or design-build experience

Required:

  • Current TX driver's license

  • Clean driving record

Position consists of: 

  • Driving landscaping crew to project locations

  • Driving vehicle on material runs throughout the day

  • Crew work when not driving vehicle

  • Physically demanding, outdoor work in Central Texas seasonal weather (extreme heat in the summer; cold/rainy weather in the winter)
